Hey there! My name is Safiya and I have been a dietitian for 10+ years. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Howard University and my Master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Though the title of Registered Dietitian classifies me as a food expert, I must admit that I have spent a good portion of my career trying to manage my food choices as a means to maintain or lose weight. Learning about diet culture has helped me realize that even in the world of nutrition there are inadvertent messages which support the notion that being in a smaller body is the only way to improve your overall health. The unfortunate side effects that come from providing nutrition recommendations influenced by weight are often disordered eating and exercise patterns. This also takes away a person’s confidence in their ability to make food choices that work for them. Ultimately leading to the false impression that a diet plan is the only way to “get on” and “stay on” track.

Knowing this, I’ve decided to dedicate my time to helping individuals break free from diet culture and provide support in creating a lifestyle one can feel good about that is free of restriction.
